    More Details…

    Open Yet Private

The operatory layout balances openness with privacy. Each room is enclosed by partial walls and clearstory glass, providing visual connection while maintaining acoustic and spatial separation. Removing ceilings increased perceived volume and openness, while suspended ceiling clouds above each chair help define intimate treatment zones. Natural light flows in through large exterior windows, creating a calming environment for both patients and staff.

    Smart and Efficient Layout

Despite a compact footprint, the space is highly efficient. Patient-facing areas are prioritized at the front, while staff support zones—lab, sterilization, storage, and mechanical—are discreetly located in the rear. The 2.072 sq. ft. clinical layout is optimized for workflow without compromising comfort. The floorplan was also designed with future expansion in mind, allowing the practice to grow into the adjacent suite if needed.

    Modern, Warm Industrial Aesthetic

The design strikes a thoughtful balance between modern minimalism and inviting warmth, creating a space that feels both professional and approachable. Industrial-inspired elements—such as exposed structural details, matte black accents, and glass partitions—lend a contemporary edge. To offset the coolness of the industrial theme, warm, organic materials were intentionally introduced. Reclaimed wood accent walls at the “12 o’clock” position in each operatory add texture, depth, and a sense of grounding natural beauty.

    Color Palette

The color palette blends warm neutrals, soft greys, and natural wood tones. Dark laminate cabinetry and accents provides contrast and visual structure. The result is a dental office that feels clean, modern, and emotionally reassuring.

    In Summary

Dr. Papinsick’s Kansas Dental Center reflects the best of modern dental practice design—merging technology, efficiency, and patient-centered comfort. From the open, light-filled operatories to the warm material palette and streamlined support areas, the space is built to support clinical excellence today with flexibility for tomorrow.

    Project Description

    Scope

This tenant finish project consisted of architectural services for a 2,216sf Periodontist office design.

    Design Objective

The client envisioned a modern, contemporary office space that seamlessly integrated principles of green design. This vision was realized through thoughtful architectural expression and the meticulous selection of sustainable materials.

    Project Details

    Central Gallery Concept

The design centers around a reimagined circulation area that functions as a central gallery, rather than a conventional hallway. As a result, it creates a curated spatial experience that encourages movement and exploration. Additionally, the ceiling remains exposed, revealing the structural elements above. This choice not only increases the perceived volume but also emphasizes the raw elegance of the space. Furthermore, recessed wall niches provide dedicated areas to display artwork, enriching the environment with cultural depth and visual interest.

Functional Focal Point: The Brush Station

In addition to these architectural elements, a distinctive freestanding brush station adds both functionality and character. It features a floating mirror paired with ambient lighting, which enhances usability while also contributing to the overall atmosphere.

    Sustainable Materiality

Sustainability drives every design decision. For example, the team carefully selected ecological materials to align with the project’s green aesthetic. One standout material is Dakota Burl—a visually striking composite made from sunflower seed hulls, a rapidly renewable agricultural by-product. The design team fabricated this material into slats, applying them to the reception desk and casework. As a result, the surfaces bring both natural texture and environmental consciousness to the space.

    Textural Accents: VortexBloom Wall Panels

To further elevate the sensory experience, the designers incorporated modularArts “VortexBloom” wall panels. These panels serve as focal features in the waiting area and accent surfaces throughout the gallery. Made from a cementitious, mineral-based composite, they are lightweight, fire-resistant, and emit no harmful substances. Moreover, their organic, flowing pattern enhances the natural and contemporary aesthetic that defines the interior.

    A Holistic Vision Realized

Ultimately, the design achieves a thoughtful balance of form, function, and sustainability. It successfully fulfills the client’s vision for a workspace that is both forward-thinking and environmentally responsible.
